What are Intrusive Thoughts

Almost anyone has intrusive thoughts once in a while. Intrusive thoughts come out of nowhere. Some people get ideas and images. Usually, they are unwanted and upsetting to think about a mistake or a worry. Some of the thoughts can be violent or aggressive. According to Brooks et al. (2019), childhood trauma survivors are a group that often has to contend with intrusive thoughts. Intrusive thoughts can be distressing if they happen occasionally.

Types of Intrusive Thoughts

Some intrusive thoughts have to do with mental health conditions, such as

1. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

2. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,

3. Brain Injury,

4 . Dementia

5. Parkinson's disease

6. Eating Disorders

When intrusive thoughts are connected to a mental health disorder, they may take longer to treat. If the underlying problem is treatable, it must be treated first.
