Finding Your Passion For A New Career: Learn About Yourself
Start by finding small things you are passionate about to begin.
A young woman came into my office. She worked as a teacher for two years after graduating with a master's degree and a credential. She found she just hated teaching; she thought about it for a while but just hated teaching. Now she is trying to find a career she is passionate about.
Another man who had been a lawyer for three years came in feeling hopeless. His parents had pushed him to go to law school. He tried a couple of different types of law but dreaded going to work every day. He knew he had to get out, but what would he do? Nothing seemed interesting to him, and he had begun to feel depressed. We worked together, and he began to write. He found he loved it and was hired as a journalist.
Often people settle into a major in college without having some experience with the the subject itself. Some decide not to go to college but find the first that pays enough. After a few years they lose interest and want have a career they are excited about. They think about it but cant find something that interests them.
